This design all but eliminates sheared rod holder pins under extreme drag loads — a critical advantage in Giant Bluefin Tuna fisheries where reel drags routinely reach 60 pounds. When paired with straight butt rods, it functions as a conventional flush mount holder, with manual rotation available to keep the line tracking properly on the tip roller. Swivel resistance is fully adjustable via a 1/2" stainless steel lock nut that compresses two nylon drag washers at the base of the holder.
