The Furuno FA170 is a dedicated 4.3" color LCD display unit for AIS systems, rendering symbols for AIS-equipped vessels, AIS-SARTs, coastal stations, and other aids to navigation within VHF range. AIS data can be routed to ECDIS, radar, or other navigational equipment to support collision avoidance. The unit holds up to 2,048 AIS targets and AIS-SARTs in memory, and selecting any target from the list opens a detailed pop-up window. From that window, operators can compose an AIS message or send a name request directly to the target vessel. When hazardous targets are identified, the FA170 generates a dedicated dangerous target list. Short safety-related messages can be exchanged with a specific MMSI or broadcast to all AIS-equipped vessels over VHF channels, with storage for up to 20 transmitted and 20 received messages. The FA170 features 6 in/out ports, 3 input-only ports, one LAN port, and one alarm output (contact closure) port, and is BAM (Bridge Alert Management) ready per IMO MSC.302(87).
