This is a 406 MHz emergency beacon. U.S. federal regulations require it to be registered with NOAA before use — and it is free.
Register online at beaconregistration.noaa.gov (fastest method). Registration links your beacon's unique ID to you, your vessel, and your emergency contacts, so the Coast Guard and search-and-rescue teams can respond faster if it is ever activated.
Registration is the owner's responsibility.
The ACR Pathfinder™ PRO Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) is fully IMO SOLAS-compliant and mandatory equipment for commercial vessels operating under GMDSS requirements, as well as any vessel carrying more than one life raft. When interrogated by marine radar, it responds with 12 intense blips on the radar screen — the first blip pinpointing the SART's exact location — transmitting across the 9.2–9.5 GHz band. A Non-Hazmat lithium battery delivers a standby operating life of 96+ hours and 12+ hours of active use. The unit ships with a wall-mount bracket that keeps it accessible but out of the way, and the integrated telescopic pole attaches to the bottom for maximum height and visibility when deployed from a life raft. The SART can also be suspended inside the craft for hands-free operation. The extension pole is sold separately (ACR Part #2918).
