Important: Register Your Beacon Before You Head Out

This is a 406 MHz emergency beacon. U.S. federal regulations require it to be registered with NOAA before use — and it is free.

Register online at beaconregistration.noaa.gov (fastest method). Registration links your beacon's unique ID to you, your vessel, and your emergency contacts, so the Coast Guard and search-and-rescue teams can respond faster if it is ever activated.

Registration is the owner's responsibility.

The ACR GlobalFix V5 Cat 2 GPS AIS EPIRB integrates 406 MHz Cospas-Sarsat satellite distress transmission with onboard AIS broadcasting, Return Link Service confirmation, GNSS positioning, NFC smartphone connectivity, and both visible and infrared strobe lights into a single Category 2 float-free housing. When activated, it simultaneously alerts the global satellite rescue network and any AIS-equipped vessel within VHF range — accelerating both coordinated SAR response and immediate local recovery.

Global + Local Rescue Coverage

GNSS positioning — drawing from GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS networks — pinpoints the beacon's location to within 100 meters and encodes that position into every 406 MHz distress transmission sent to the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network. Ground stations receive the encoded position and vessel identifier, initiating formal SAR operations. Simultaneously, the integrated AIS transmitter broadcasts a VHF safety message carrying MMSI vessel identification, allowing any AIS-equipped vessel in the area to see the EPIRB as a target on their display and navigate directly to it — without waiting for official SAR authority dispatch.

Return Link Service (RLS)

Return Link Service provides visual confirmation directly to the user that their 406 MHz distress message has been received by the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, removing uncertainty during an emergency activation.

NFC Smartphone App Connectivity

Placing a compatible smartphone adjacent to the GlobalFix V5 automatically launches the ACR Product App via Near Field Communication. The app displays current beacon status including battery life remaining, number of self-tests completed, number of GNSS tests completed, and accumulated activation time — making pre-departure checks straightforward.
