The Ocean Signal SafeSea S100 is an IMO SOLAS-compliant Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) built for liferaft and survival craft locating operations. In standby mode it monitors continuously, then automatically responds when swept by any nearby vessel's X-Band radar — returning a line of dots on that ship's display to give rescuers a direct bearing to the survival craft. Activation controls mirror those of the SafeSea E100 EPIRB, so even inexperienced operators can deploy it quickly. The S100 ships complete with a telescopic pole and storage bracket, ready for liferaft installation.

Important: Register Your Beacon Before You Head Out

This is a 406 MHz emergency beacon. U.S. federal regulations require it to be registered with NOAA before use — and it is free.

Register online at beaconregistration.noaa.gov (fastest method). Registration links your beacon's unique ID to you, your vessel, and your emergency contacts, so the Coast Guard and search-and-rescue teams can respond faster if it is ever activated.

Registration is the owner's responsibility and is not completed on your behalf at point of sale.

Features:

  • Extended battery performance maintained even at -20°C
  • User-replaceable battery with a five-year replacement interval
  • Non-hazardous battery chemistry
  • Compact form factor sized for straightforward liferaft stowage
  • Includes telescopic pole and storage bracket
  • Activation controls identical to the SafeSea E100 EPIRB for ease of use by untrained operators
  • Standby mode activates automatically upon detection of an X-Band radar sweep
  • Transmits a series of pulses displayed as a line of dots on the rescuing vessel's radar, providing a bearing to the survival craft

Carriage Requirements:

  • Required on all IMO SOLAS vessels on international voyages: one unit for 300–500 GRT vessels; two units for vessels over 500 GRT; one SART per every four liferafts on ro-ro passenger vessels
  • Applicable to nationally mandated vessels including fishing vessels, passenger craft, and commercial workboats
  • Most super and mega yachts — particularly those covered by MCA code of practice (recognized internationally) — are required to carry a SART
  • Voluntary-fit vessels also benefit from carrying a SART
