The patented swivel base allows a bent butt rod to rotate freely when lateral pressure is applied at the tip, keeping the rod tracking with the fish and eliminating the sheared-pin failures common with rigid holders. At Giant Bluefin Tuna drag settings approaching 60 lbs, that rotational freedom makes a measurable difference — reducing line fraying caused by the running line streaming sideways across the roller tip rather than tracking cleanly over it. Straight butt rods work equally well; they can be manually rotated to keep the line on the tip roller. Swivel resistance is field-adjustable via two nylon drag washers tensioned by a 1/2" stainless steel lock nut at the base of the holder.
