The Furuno PUMPHRP17-12 is a 12 VDC reversing pumpset built to connect the NavPilot autopilot series to a hydraulic steering system. At its core is a reversible gerotor gear pump — a two-piece gear set housed within an eccentric ring — engineered for quiet, precise, and reliable steering control. The pump delivers 1.7 cubic inches of hydraulic oil per second, making it compatible with ram sizes ranging from 14 to 25 cubic inches in volume. Output flow rate governs cylinder speed directly: oil directed into the port or starboard steering line moves the cylinder, which transfers linear motion through a tiller arm to the rudder shaft, steering the vessel. When multiple helm pumps are installed, a return/fill line connecting all helm pump cases is required.
