AIS systems cover Class B transponders, Class B+ SOTDMA transceivers, receive-only AIS receivers, blackbox headless units, and portable AIS devices. A Class B transceiver broadcasts your vessel's MMSI number, position, speed, and course over VHF to other AIS-equipped boats and shore stations while pulling in surrounding traffic and overlaying targets on a connected chartplotter or MFD. Receive-only units deliver the same traffic picture without transmitting. Brands in this collection include AMEC, Digital Yacht, em-trak, SI-TEX, and McMurdo. Most units support NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 networking for integration with existing marine electronics, and installations typically require either a dedicated AIS antenna or a VHF antenna splitter — some models include a built-in splitter, others need a separate one.
