Nets & Gaffs

Nets and gaffs are the two primary fish landing tools carried on fishing boats. Landing nets include folding and fixed-frame designs in a range of hoop sizes and bag depths suited to different target species, from panfish and trout to salmon and stripers. Gaffs cover hand gaffs and gaff hooks sized for large, heavy fish — halibut, big tuna, offshore billfish — where lifting over the gunwale by net is not practical.

Choosing between a net and a gaff comes down to the fish and the intention. Nets are the standard choice for catch-and-release fishing, protecting the fish during handling. A gaff is the practical call for trophy-weight or large offshore and inshore species where keeping the catch is the goal.
